Open Question: Can $2000 buy a older(90's models) BMW at public auto auction? please read? help?

Hello, I live in Lexington Kentucky, and I have heard a lot of people say that they have saw older BMW'S at auctions sell for really cheap. I've heard people say that they can go for $1000, some $1500 and $2000. How much do you think on average a 1992-1999 BMW 3 series or any cheaper series would sell for at public auto auction? I've heard people say that they have saw them sell for like $1500 and all the work that it needed was minor, like brakes, rotors etc...Is this true? Please share some experiences that you have had at auctions with prices on bmws of these years...I would really appreciate it...Please be detailed and let me know what to expect on prices for these cars..thanks...
